SMTP works with a Mail Transfer Agent (SMTP relay) to send your emails to the right mailbox and computer. I have my email account configured on my laptop and when I'm at home, I use my Internet connection at home via WiFi to my router. When I'm on the road, I use my wireless 3G card.
