Jul 02, 2020 · A Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a protocol used to send emails from one server to another. Most email systems use SMTP to send emails over the internet. SMTP works with a Mail Transfer Agent (SMTP relay) to send your emails to the right mailbox and computer. I have my email account configured on my laptop and when I'm at home, I use my Internet connection at home via WiFi to my router. When I'm on the road, I use my wireless 3G card. The issue is that when I use it at home, in order to send emails, I need to set the SMTP server settings to my "home provider" and when I'm on the road, I need to set it to my "3G provider". This is quite cumbersome However, there are multiple common SMTP ports (more on this next) and not all of them work in all situations. For example, port 25, the standard SMTP port for moving messages between mail servers, is often blocked by ISPs and cloud providers (including Google Cloud Platform, which is what Kinsta uses).
